Who am I?

Mystic Realism offers a way to explore the unknown. Locate answers to life's questions within.
Each painting journey begins with a question and ends when it is answered. I go to the emotions and sensations of my body, nature, ceremony and stories from my lineages for clues to the answer.
The canvas is a portal in and beyond - grounded in my own complex weaves of lineages, the land & people who raised me, air who animates, and water who connects me within and without.
The truth of past wounds reveal the ties that bind - blinders of social rules and false stories. Tracking this bodys emotions and sensations as data made form in color and brush strokes. Collectively layers of abstract paint become composted soil from which answers bring fruit - the flavors of who I have always been.
Characters and symbols of Mythological stories emerge and offer archetypal & literal instructions for life.

Mystic Realism also offers a way to explore the pluriverse - inner & outer landscapes, wounds & wisdom, past, present & future. These journeys are both personal and collective.
The truth of collective wounds, experienced physically and energetically, emotional and in sensations, expressed in abstract color and form in the under-layers of the canvas. From this composted soil, mythological people and symbols emerge. These wise ones reveal erased ways of being - bringing answers to questions, receive the seeds of wishes, hopes and dreams, and nurtures these visions for the future.
This work is always practiced ceremonially, and grounded in the values and principles of Te Wheke by Dr. Rose Pere (Maori Wellness Model for People in Community), echoed within the principles of SENSE8.

Dear fellow traveler,
I am so very grateful that you somehow managed to find your way to this space and place. I am new to sharing my painting journeys in the world. Fear of my work being misunderstood, misrepresented and/or stolen has held my hand
- until now.
They, the paintings, have told me they are ready to be shared - that their messages, their energy, and their mana needs to be shared.
And so -
here we are ...... just beginning to share them into the world. We do hope that these visual beauties bring you nourishment and maybe even inspiration - as they do us. There is so much composted and realized in the many many layers of each painting - in person, they resonate with so much good kai/food, good mana/empowerment, and good wairua/spirit. Which is saying something, as most have been a solace for me as I learn to untangle, understand and transmute how collective and personal deamons and shadows (jungian def' here), heavy emotions (esp. rage and grief) are a consequence of too many experiences (lived, inherited, and witnessed) in this world. Funny thing is, as I paint, the canvas teaches me, and my process invites this body to remember, regenerate and recalibrate. And so ,the end visuals resonate (to me) with much love and possibility.
Some of the originals are for sale - prices are in the Image Descriptions. All are available in limited edition Giclee Prints - which is a high resolution gorgeous printing process using acrylic paints to print. Each is a rendition of each painting done by Brian ,an artist himself in Portland OR. 14x11" Giclee's cost $45. Other sized prints are negotiable.
Please, send me a message below if you want to know more about the paintings, are considering a purchase and wish to see in much higher resolution image.
