Replenish Your Soul

What is a Waiata Home?

A Compass

Your unique waiata/song carries the wisdom, memories, ancestors, love, and resilience you already hold within.

Your waiata is an expression of the archetypal energies that thrum within all of us. This waiata is always with you, yet the world has been designed to silence it.

And still, it is embedded in your very cells, and resonates in the rhythms and sensations of your body.

And as you tune in -

you build trust in your cellular wisdom, and

your waiata shows you how to read your own inner compass.

Reconnecting with your rhythms & sensations, invites you into being your own north star.

And, to do so in community is to navigate in right-relationship with integrity.

A Painting Journey

Each painting journey, online and in person, offers a powerful 8-step guided painting experience that invites a gentle, fun & sustainable way to:

  • repair, re-member, restore, & re-center

  • experience & express your emotions and body

  • create something lasting that is both beautiful and meaningful to you.

This experience is truly a journey - a tuning process that can re-set your nervous system and relationships within your body+field.

Creating in such intentional ways reveals the healing power of art and the ancient community practice of people coming together - to celebrate and support each other.

Journey

YOUR GUIDED PAINTING

beautiful emmaj_edited_edited.jpg

Let's start by saying: You do not need any prior painting experience, and all bodies bring their own wisdom and ways of moving with the archetypal energies of the feminine & masculine.

Painting is a beautiful and powerful form of self-expression that can also be intimidating especially when we are caught up in our heads with judgements.

In the Waiata Home painting journey you will quickly learn that you have arrived in a container of celebration and welcome where it is known that every body has a waiata that sings of home, everybody is on their own journey, everybody is invested in the experience, and everybody has the capacity to connect with their inner artist & inner being.

The offered guidance and prompts are intended to invite and empower you to unlock your inner wisdom and creativity. How each of our bodies do this is part of our unique song.

This journey is one of bravely daring to put brush to canvas and practice listening to the rhythms of your body, feeling its emotions, movement, and sensations.

Your Guide

Dr. Emma J Coddington Brown is an ocean nomad, raised in Bulls, Aotearoa, she has spent the last 30 years living and training, healing and learning from wise folks in the Islands & Pacific Ocean (VASA), Nth and Sth America, Africa (sp. Kenya, Morrocco, and South Africa), and a wee bit in Europe (Italy & Ireland).

The question that has called her through this life: How do the forces of stress AND love organize our bodies, relationships and communities?

Once a neuroscience-physiology researcher and teacher in traditional (elite) universities, she is now called to work with people through movement, therapeutic practices and creative imagination and form.  In private 1:1 sessions and group journeys, Emma listens to the field and people's needs - and flexibly combines inquirys with color, culture, geeky neuroscience stuff, somatic movements, paint & canvas.

This approach is akin to weaving - assisting each of you to find the foundations and patterns of your own unique ways

of being.  Develop practices that invite you to listen and discern your inner wisdom & compass, and therefore how

to dance and shuffle in right relationship - with honor, clarity and integrity.

Emma brings home her skills, knowledge, and practices as an atypical Neuroscientist, Psychosomatic Practitioner (The Resilience Toolkit® ), Shamanic practices, Guided Drawing®, and Intentional Creativity® Practitioner & Teacher (iMusea University).

Its about radical love & community

How we do community at all scales from family to whanau, cities to nations, is being revealed for the oppressive social structures that dominate and harm too many people...... AND...... Now is the time to re-imagine better ways to be in relationship.  Ways that are deeply value-driven, community-centered and celebrating diversity, adopting frameworks and methods that serve one and all such as Te Wheke Kamaatu - The Octapus of Great Wisdom (Dr. Rangimarie Turuki Rose Pere, CBE). We, at SENSE8, consider our group workshops and journeys as opportunities to bring re-imagined ways to form. It's our turn to practice together.

Emma commits to hold each of your diverse sense of agency and sovereignty as paramount and attends to co-created agreements by which we gather in a group and enjoy. The intention is to hold a safe space in which we can bravely show up. This does not promise that we will be comfy all the time - but it does commit to each of your intentions and growth at the same time as attending to community coherence.  As such each of you will be having a very private experience, that (if you choose to share) can be witnessed by those in the room with you - amplifying the 'ahah' realizations that emerge when painting in layers (as we do). Practicing noticing and listening to each other, and being fully noticed ourselves - we are practicing ways of being in relationship and community.  This approach has changed her/their own life and that of countless beings around the world.

Emma has more than 30 years of experience curating shared and brave spaces for learning & personal work in groups. She began as a non-traditional scientist working to decolonize neuroscience, physiology and biology classrooms. The most recent iteration of these brave spaces has been in offerings to 1:1 private sessions, group journeys like this one (Waiata Home), and cultural coaching (mostly to science institutions and schools).

Typically, Emma prefers to collaborate with other facilitators when offering group journeys - this time home she will be on her own.  She/they offers a powerful combination of approach + system + framework, offering tangible creative practices that reignite your spirit and energies. While acknowledging and honoring the diverse lived experiences and ways our bodies are influenced by the world around us.

Prophets and Priestesses Workshop Emma_edited.jpg

"This workshop came at a time when I had lost an inner connection with myself and was feeling emotionally and physically exhausted, working on the front lines of the current pandemic over the past years. Painting allowed me to hear my own wisdom and the creative process was very healing for me. I highly recommend Emma as an Intentional Creativity guide and teacher. I look forward to taking another class."

A deeper Why

Its about radical love & community

How we do community at all scales from family to whanau, cities to nations, is being revealed for the oppressive social structures that dominate and harm too many people...... AND...... Now is the time to re-imagine better ways to be in relationship, better ways to be in community. Ways that invite creativity, en-spirited and earth-connected, principled, and responsible to community and collective field. We, at SENSE8, invite adopting frameworks and methods that serve one and all such as Te Wheke Kamaatu - The Octapus of Great Wisdom (Dr. Rangimarie Turuki Rose Pere, CBE). And, we consider our group workshops and journeys as opportunities to bring re-imagined ways to form. It's our turn to practice together. We, your guides, commit to hold each of your diverse sense of agency and sovereignty as paramount and attends to co-created agreements by which we gather in a group and enjoy. The intention is to hold a safe space in which we can bravely show up. This does not promise that we will be comfy all the time - but it does commit to each of your intentions and growth at the same time as attending to community coherence.

How this informs the design of workshops

In workshops and painting journey's, each of you will have a very private experience, that (if you choose to share) can be witnessed by those in the room with you - amplifying the 'ahah' realizations that emerge when painting in layers (as we do). In group, you are invited to deepen your capacity to witness - learning how to better notice and listen to each other, and being fully witnessed ourselves - we are practicing ways of being in relationship and community. She/they offers a powerful combination of approach + system + framework, offering tangible creative practices that reignite your spirit and energies. While acknowledging and honoring the diverse lived experiences and ways our bodies are influenced by the world around us.

Now is the time to re-imagine better ways to be in relationship, better ways to be in community. SENSE8 designs and offers programs for those who are looking for better ways to be, in relationship, community and within themselves. How we do community is currently being revealed for the oppressive social structures that dominate and harm too many. Together, we can explore better ways of being in family & whanau, cities & nations.

We, at SENSE8, believe that there are four core elements to a persons ability and capacity to live a fulfilling life and to participate in community with integrity & alignment. These elements call for skills, knowledge and practice:

1) Know thyself - your emotions, sensations, stories & lineages, gifts & shadows.

2) Adopt and live by chosen frameworks that center self AND all people

3) Develop the skills and knowledge to notice and interfere with oppressive social norms and structures.

4) Develop and practice in the imaginarium - the space in which we co-create better ways of being

We invite you to join us and the many folks around the world who are orienting in this way.

There comes a time in the life of a woman

When she unabashedly and boldly occupies her ultimate sovereignty

When she finally feels ready to claim her space in the world

And when she redefines compassion as unequivocal self-love
